Tried cold emailing 40 ops managers at small logistics firms in Dallas, got 9 replies and 3 demos
I always thought cold outreach was dead so I tested it on a small batch: 40 ops managers at freight companies with 20 to 50 trucks. Kept each note under 90 words and mentioned a specific pain point from their site, like detention fees eating margin. Got 9 replies and 3 demos booked, way more than the 1.5% I used to see at my old job. Now I'm wondering if the short email or the small niche list did the heavy lifting, anyone else test list size vs reply rate?
My buddy ran almost the same test last spring, 60 ops guys at HVAC companies around Phoenix, and his reply rate went from 2% to 14% once he cut the list down that small. His take was the tight list did most of the work, since the pain point line writes itself when every company has the same problem. Maybe try 40 more with a longer email and see if the replies hold up.
