Debate: Did that free trial actually hook me or was it just hype?

So I needed a CRM for my small cleaning business last quarter. I tried Freshworks because a guy in another forum swore by it. First month was free and everything felt slick and fast. But around week three I hit a wall... the automation tools I actually needed were locked behind the paid tier. That free trial felt more like a tease than a real test. On the other hand, my buddy went with HubSpot's free plan and he says it still handles his email lists fine after six months. So here's my question: are these free trials a genuine way to vet a service, or are they just a trick to get you hooked on features you'll have to pay for later? Has anyone else dealt with a trial that hid the real costs until you were already using it every day?

That stuff about HubSpot's free plan handling email lists is mostly right, but they cap you at like 2,000 contacts and the free version leaves out a lot of the workflow tools. The real cost usually shows up when you want to automate a follow up or segment your lists.

Stick with the basic free tools first and see if they solve your main problem before you upgrade. That Freshworks thing happened to me with Mailchimp a few years back. I spent a month building automations during the trial, then found out the trigger I needed was in the 50 dollar a month plan. Now I always check the pricing page for the exact feature I need, not what the sales page says. The real test is whether you'd still use it on day 31 when the billing kicks in, not how smooth it feels during the first week.
