I finally stopped paying for monthly SEO reports nobody reads

Six months back I was shelling out $400 a month to an agency for these 20 page SEO reports that looked pretty but told me nothing. I switched to a flat rate freelancer who just sends a 5 bullet email every Friday with rankings and fixes. Now I'm wondering if big agencies are ever worth it for small B2B shops, or if I got lucky. Has anyone else downsized their SEO reporting and seen results stay the same or get better?
