Salesforce consultant convinced me to ditch my fancy CRM at a cafe in Austin

I was at Strange Brew in Austin last month, drinking a cold brew and griping to this consultant about how my $200/month CRM was a mess. He asked what I actually needed it for, and I realized half the features were fluff I never touched. He showed me how he manages his clients with just a Google Sheet and some automation tools, and it blew my mind. I switched that week and cut my costs by 75 percent. Has anyone else found that simpler setups beat the expensive ones?

Ain't that the truth? Sometimes less really is more when it comes to CRM.

Whoa, gotta push back hard here. Honestly, I think this is bad advice for most people. @joseph_hart, I get the appeal of simplicity but a Google Sheet breaks the second you have more than one person using it. Real CRM software does stuff like track email history automatically and keep you from forgetting follow-ups. I tried the "simple" route with a spreadsheet and some free tools, and I lost leads because my dumb manual system missed a notification. For a solo freelancer maybe it works, but for any team or growing business that $200 gets you automation and reporting that a sheet just cannot do. Ngl, the consultant sold you a story that sounds good but will bite you later.
