Bought a soil thermometer on a whim, turns out my balcony was cooking my carrots

I grabbed one of those cheap probe thermometers last week after my carrots kept bolting, and found out the soil in my black plastic pots hits 95 degrees by 2pm even when the air is only 70. That number shocked me because everything online said carrots like cool roots, but nobody mentioned that dark containers turn into ovens on a south facing balcony. Anyone else see crazy soil temps with dark pots, or did I just pick the worst color for my setup?
