Bought those expensive self-watering pots from Home Depot last spring, total waste of $120 for 6 pots.
The water reservoirs got clogged with algae within 2 months, and my basil roots rotted out. Two of the pots cracked when I moved them in for winter. Anyone else ditch the fancy systems and just go back to regular nursery pots with saucers?

Total waste of $120 for 6 pots" is spot on, I read a similar complaint on a gardening subreddit about those same pots and how the algae just takes over. Regular nursery pots with saucers have never let me down, they're cheap and I can actually see when the soil is dry. Seems like the fancy stuff just creates more problems than it solves.
