Drainage layer comparison, gravel vs perlite in pots
Tried both on my balcony in Seattle for 3 weeks. Gravel blocked the holes, water sat and roots got sad. Swapped to a perlite layer, way lighter too. My cherry tomatoes perked up in 4 days. Anyone else ditch gravel for something else in their containers?

yeah i was totally team gravel for years, thought perlite was just for soil fluff. but after a couple of soggy basil disasters i finally tried it and honestly it feels like cheating, lighter pots alone are worth it. the drainage difference is night and day, wont go back.
