Hot take: I counted 41 blooms on one pepper plant and now I'm rethinking my whole setup
So I got bored on a Sunday and actually counted the flowers on my bell pepper plant on the balcony, and it came to 41 open blooms at once. The thing is, I only ended up with 6 peppers from all of that, which got me wondering where the rest went wrong. I'm on the third floor in Portland and I think wind is knocking the pollen around before the bees ever get up there. Nobody talks about how much fruit you lose to poor pollination on a high balcony, it's all about soil and water in most guides I read. Does anyone hand pollinate with a little paintbrush, and did it actually bump up your harvest numbers?
