Hot take: Self-watering containers versus old-school pots on a balcony
My neighbor Rose swears her basil tripled in size after switching to self-watering boxes last summer. But I still prefer regular terracotta pots because I got better drainage and my cherry tomatoes didn't get root rot. What's your experience - do the fancy containers really beat the basics for small balcony spaces?

Nah, I'm with Rose on this one. Self-watering boxes saved my balcony garden.

@ninab95 I get why self-watering boxes work for some people, but honestly I've had more luck with regular pots and a simple drip tray setup. Tbh the plastic reservoirs always end up getting algae or weird smells in my experience. Ngl I'd rather just water my plants every other day than deal with cleaning those things out.
