Last week my basil got scorched by a heatwave on day 2 of a 95 degree spell

I woke up and like 7 leaves were totally crispy even though I watered the night before. Has anyone else had luck with shade cloth on a tiny balcony or do you just move pots around all day?

Our balcony gets full afternoon sun and I used to think shade cloth was overkill for just a few pots. Then I lost half a tray of seedlings in one afternoon and yeah, I get it now. I drape a lightweight cloth over a cheap tomato cage and it makes a huge difference, no more crispy leaves unless I forget to water.

That "unless I forget to water" part hit me hard, @oscarcooper. It's funny how gardening teaches you the same lesson over and over, like everything in life has one weak spot that ruins it if you ignore it. I swear my plants survive more on my routine than my actual skill.
