My balcony tomato plants kept falling over until I switched from bamboo to metal cages

For years I used those cheap bamboo stakes from the garden center, but my cherry tomatoes in Seattle would always tip over by mid-July when they got heavy. Last spring I spent $25 on some heavy-duty metal cages, and this season the plants are standing straight even with all the fruit. What do you guys use to keep your tall balcony veggies from falling over?

@kai_west what size grid did you get for your peas? Been trying to find one that won't let the leaves squeeze through.
