My basil went to seed in June and it actually worked out

I used to panic and pinch flowers off ASAP, but last year I let one plant bolt near my fire escape in Portland. Ended up with hundreds of seeds plus the leaves got spicier, which made a killer pesto for like 2 months. Now I save about 50 seeds every season and give them to my neighbor. Anyone else let stuff go to seed on purpose or am I the weird one?
