My neighbor said my tomato setup looked like a 'sad salad bar'

She pointed out my three pots in Seattle were way too close, blocking all the sun. I moved them apart last week and added a cheap bamboo stake to each one. Has anyone else had a plant get roasted by a simple spacing mistake?

Giving things room to breathe" is the goal, sure. But sometimes you gotta pack stuff in tight. My best peppers grew in a crowded corner.

My buddy tried to grow herbs on his fire escape last year. He had basil, mint, and cilantro all jammed in one long planter. The mint just took over and choked everything out. It was a total mess, like diana_flores25 said about stuff on a balcony killing the vibe. He ended up with a pot of just mint and some sad, stringy basil. Spacing seems small but it really matters.

Totally get that, it's amazing how small changes make a huge difference. I see this all the time with people cramming furniture or stuff on a balcony, it just kills the vibe and the function. Giving things a little room to breathe usually fixes so many problems.
