My neighbor's 5 minute tomato tip changed my whole setup

Last Sunday I was complaining to the guy next door about my cherry tomatoes dropping flowers and he just said 'you're watering the leaves, not the roots' and tapped my watering can. I switched to a long-neck spout and aimed low at the base for 5 days, and suddenly I've got 12 little green tomatoes forming on my 4 plants. Has anyone else found that one tiny change to watering style made a bigger difference than any fancy fertilizer?

Funny how we always blame the plant or the dirt first. Yeah, that was my exact problem two years ago. I was soaking the whole plant like it was a houseplant and wondering why everything went mushy. Switched to a cheap plastic bottle with a narrow tip and just watered in a little circle around the stem until I saw the top inch get dark. That plus putting a 2 inch layer of straw mulch on top to keep the soil from drying out so fast. Made a way bigger difference than any box of miracle grow I ever tried.
