My tomato plants got blight and it took me 6 weeks to figure out why

I thought my balcony tomatoes were just sad from bad weather, but nope it was blight spreading from the potting soil I reused. Took forever to connect the dots since the spots looked like sunburn at first. Has anyone else dealt with hidden soil issues?

I heard somewhere that soil can hold onto fungus for ages, kinda like how old sponges get gross. It's wild how much stuff hides in reused dirt until it's too late.
