My uncle swore by coffee grounds in potting mix, I thought he was nuts
He kept telling me to save my used coffee grounds and mix them into my tomato pots. After losing two seasons of sad plants I finally tried it last spring and got the biggest harvest I've ever had off a 3x4 balcony. Anyone else get handed weird advice from a relative that actually worked?

Oh hold up, coffee grounds aren't actually great for potting mix straight out of the filter. They can trap moisture and mess with drainage if you use too much. I learned that the hard way after turning my soil into soggy cement.

Isn't it funny how the old school stuff that sounds crazy usually ends up being the real secret? It's like our grandparents knew things we're just now rediscovering through trial and error.
