Pro tip: I just found out my balcony tomatoes were basically starving

I was reading a gardening blog from a university extension office, and it said a single tomato plant in a pot can need up to a full gallon of water a day when it's hot and fruiting. I was giving mine maybe a quart. No wonder my plants looked sad and the fruit was splitting. I upped my watering big time this week and they've already perked up. Has anyone else had to change their watering habits after learning something new?

and here i thought i was being a good plant parent giving my tomatoes a sad little sip every morning. turns out i was basically running a plant hospice instead of a garden. my cucumbers are probably plotting against me now for neglect. but hey, at least my soil is nice and compacted from all that under-watering, right? honestly, if my plants could talk they'd probably just call me a water miser and move on.

Try bottom watering for a deeper soak.

Overwatering kills more plants than under.
