PSA: my balcony tomato cage turned into a kite during that storm on Tuesday
So Tuesday night around 11pm a gust came through here in Council Bluffs and ripped my whole tomato setup right off the rail. I had two of those cheap wire cages zip tied to a plastic planter box, and the wind just folded the ties like nothing. I wake up to my neighbor texting me a photo of a cherry tomato plant hanging off the parking sign three floors down, roots and all. Spent 45 minutes in the rain with a flashlight scooping potting mix off the sidewalk because I am not buying another $22 bag if I can help it. The funny part is the plant survived, it is sitting in a bucket now looking better than it did in the fancy box. My kid asked if the tomato ran away and honestly that is what it looked like. I am thinking of switching to a trellis bolted to the wall, but I want to know if anybody here has a setup that actually stays put in 40 mph gusts.
