So my neighbor said my balcony tomatoes are 'too crowded', who's right?

I've got 6 determinate plants in a 3 foot rail box, they're bushy but producing fine, and she claims they'll stunt each other by August. But my grandpa always jammed them together in buckets and got more fruit than anyone, so is it real science or just yard-garden snobbery?

Wait, is your neighbor out there measuring your tomato spacing with a ruler every morning or something? lol I've done the exact same thing, crammed 5 or 6 determinates into a 2 foot planter and they went nuts, like a jungle of fruit. The key is just staying on top of watering and maybe giving them a lil extra feed once flowers show up. Your grandpa knew what he was doing, those old school bucket growers always beat the fancy spaced-out garden plots. I've had crowded plants flop over from the weight and still yield more than my neat rows ever did. Tell her to mind her own railing, you're doing just fine.
