Switched from daily watering to a deep soak every 3 days and my cherry tomatoes finally stopped splitting

I used to give my balcony plants a little water every morning before work, but after talking to a neighbor who grows massive peppers, I changed to soaking them until water runs out the bottom every 3 days instead. Has anyone else found that less frequent watering makes a BIG difference with tomatoes on a hot balcony?

My neighbor with the massive peppers told me letting the soil dry out a bit forces the roots to go deeper for water.

My buddy tried that method last season with his jalapenos and it totally backfired on him, haha. He let them dry out way too much and they ended up getting all stressed and bitter tasting. I mean, maybe it works if you have the timing right but he said his plants looked sad and droopy for weeks after. Seems like there's a fine line between training roots and just torturing the plant.
