That $60 self watering container saved my lettuce from a 4 day vacation

I went out of town for a long weekend back in June and was sure my balcony garden would be toast when I got back. My neighbor was supposed to water but she forgot. Came home to bone dry soil on my regular pots but the lettuce in that self watering thing I grabbed off Amazon was still perky. Cost me about $60 and I honestly thought it was a gimmick. Now I'm eyeing those bigger ones for tomatoes next season. Anyone have luck with the generic brand ones versus the name brand?

Tbh the real win is not worrying about neighbors flaking on you.

Saw this article the other day about how people are so burnt out from coordinating with neighbors that they're literally selling houses to get away from it... had this neighbor who'd commit to a block party every year then bail last minute, leaving me with a cooler full of soda and no one to drink it. Realized I was spending more time managing their feelings than actually enjoying my own backyard. So yeah, not having to beg people to show up for a cookout is honestly the dream.
