That guy who insisted on fabric pots over plastic last spring...

Ran into a dude at the community garden swap who spent 10 minutes telling me how fabric pots stop root circling. I laughed it off until my balcony peppers started wilting in July while his looked Perfect. Anybody else switch containers and see a big difference?

Yeah but were you using the same soil mix? Because that might be the real difference, not the pot type. I switched to fabric last year and my tomatoes did better but I also switched to a lighter potting mix at the same time. The fabric dries out way faster so if you weren't watering enough that could explain the wilting too. What kind of peppers were they, and how often were you watering them in the plastic pots?

Hang on, are we sure the fabric pot itself isn't doing something different though? I mean yeah, soil mix matters a ton, no argument there. But I've run the same exact bagged potting mix in both plastic and fabric pots side by side, and the roots in the fabric pots always look way healthier at the end of the season. Air pruning is real, and I think that alone changes how the plant drinks water. So even if you watered the plastic ones the same amount, the roots in those pots probably got rootbound and struggled to take up water properly, which looks the same as underwatering.
