That neighbor who swore by eggshells in balcony soil
My neighbor on the third floor told me to crush eggshells into my potting mix for extra calcium. I tried it on half my tomato plants this spring and the other half got nothing extra. The eggshell plants grew slower and one even got blossom end rot anyway. The regular plants with just standard fertilizer did way better. Has anyone else had eggshells backfire on them like this?

Did you dry and crush the shells into a fine powder first, or just toss in big pieces?

Oh man, I definitely learned that one the hard way! First time I just tossed in whole shells and ended up with crunchy eggs that were less than pleasant.
