Tried using leftover coffee grounds as fertilizer for my balcony tomatoes and got a weird leaf curl. Was it the caffeine or just a coincidence?

Actually, coffee grounds are pretty acidic, and tomatoes don't always love that. The leaf curl could easily be from the soil pH getting thrown off, not the caffeine. It's a common mistake to add too much at once. Might want to check if the soil feels different or if you see any other changes.

My neighbor's compost pile got way too hot from fresh coffee grounds, basically cooked the roots. The plants looked exactly like that, curled and stunted.

But what if the leaf curl is just from overwatering?
