Used to drown my basil with daily watering till I killed 4 plants in a row last June

Switched to checking soil moisture with my finger before watering and now my balcony herbs actually survive the summer, has anyone else overwatered their way through a whole season before figuring it out?

Did you water them every single day no matter what? I did the same thing with succulents once. Turns out plants can actually drown if you love them too much.

I killed three spider plants last year doing the exact same thing. Soil was soaking wet every day, roots turned to mush. Less water is better for most houseplants.
