Vent: My neighbor said my balcony looked like a jungle

I have 8 pots of cherry tomatoes and basil crammed onto a 4x6 foot space, and yesterday my neighbor told me it looks messy and unkempt. That criticism made me rethink my setup, so I bought a tiered shelf from Home Depot last week to stack things vertically. Has anyone else had to rearrange their balcony garden because of rude comments from neighbors?

Have you tried those tiered plant stands? A friend of mine had a neighbor complain about her "messy" railing plants, so she got one of those corner shelves and it actually looked way nicer (and the neighbor shut up about it). She even got compliments from another neighbor a few weeks later.

Depends on the tiered stand honestly. Some of those things look like a secondhand junk pile if the plants aren't perfectly pruned and arranged. My neighbor tried one and it just amplified the mess - pots sliding off, dirt everywhere, plants blocking the drain spout. Corner shelves especially can trap water and rot if you're not careful. Plus if the HOA is really strict, they might still ding you for having anything on the railing at all, tiered or not. It's a bandaid fix that works until it doesn't.
