Went from sad little leggy sprouts to real tomato plants after I finally put a fan on them for 3 weeks straight

I kept getting these pale weak seedlings that would flop over, but after reading some random tip about air movement I set up a little desk fan on my balcony for 3 weeks and now the stems are thick like pencils has anyone else noticed a huge difference from just airflow?

Wait, a heat mat? Don't those things cost like forty bucks and just sit under the pot? I mean, I got my fan for like twelve dollars at a garage sale so that's a big difference in price. But you're saying the light distance was more important than the fan? That's wild to me because my seedlings were practically crawling out of the soil before I put the fan on them. Now I'm wondering if I just got lucky with the timing or something. What kind of light are you using that close without burning the leaves?

Hear me out, I tried the fan thing for two weeks and honestly didn't see much difference. My tomato sprouts were still getting leggy and pale even with a fan blowing on them all day. What actually worked for me was putting them under a grow light like six inches away and keeping the soil warm with a heat mat. The stems got thick and dark green within a week or two, way faster than any fan did. I think the airflow helps strengthen stems once they're already decent, but if they're sad little leggy things from the start, you gotta fix the light and temperature first.
