A burnt brisket from a $200 offset changed my whole setup

I ran a WSM for 5 years and swore charcoal was the only way. Then I tried a friend's cheap offset at a cookout in Austin last fall. He didn't wrap, used straight post oak, and let the temp swing from 225 to 275 all afternoon. That brisket had a deeper smoke ring and better bark than anything I ever produced, even after I spritzed and wrapped like clockwork. I bought a used offset from a guy on Craigslist two days later and never looked back. Anyone else junk their pellet or charcoal rig after tasting true stick burner results?
