Can we talk about that time I tried to smoke a whole watermelon

I threw a whole watermelon on my offset smoker for 6 hours thinking it'd turn into some kind of smoky dessert, but it just exploded all over my firebox and made a sticky mess that took me an hour to clean up. The rind got all tough and black while the inside turned to mush, and I swear my smoker still smells like a Jolly Rancher three days later. Has anyone actually gotten smoked fruit to work without it going sideways on you?

Honestly, that whole "sticky mess" description just proves you rushed it - low and slow with proper ventilation is the key.

Man I had a buddy who tried this exact thing thinking he could just blast the heat and get it done in half the time. He ended up with what he called "caramelized regret" all over his kitchen floor lmao. The smell alone took three days to air out even with all the windows open. Low and slow is definitely the way to go, I learned that the hard way myself a few years back. But hey, some people gotta learn through trial and error I guess.
