Showerthought: Saw a pitmaster in Franklin using a hair dryer on his fire

I was down in Tennessee last fall and watched a guy at a well-known spot use a cheap hair dryer to stoke his coals before putting on a brisket. He said it gives a more even start than bellows or just waiting... but I've never seen that trick before. Is that a common practice for managing airflow, or just a one-off hack?

My uncle in Lockhart swears by a hair dryer for his offset smoker. He says it gets the coals to that perfect gray ash faster than anything else. I tried it last summer and it really does cut down the wait time before you put the meat on. It feels like a weird trick but it just works.

Ever try a leaf blower for a bigger fire?
