Am I the only one who had a book club member go rogue and rewrite the ending of the novel during discussion?
Last month at our meetup in Portland, a guy named Dave spent 20 minutes pitching his own alternate ending for The Great Gatsby, and it totally derailed the actual conversation on Fitzgerald's themes, has anyone else dealt with a member who treats the book like a writing workshop?

Three weeks ago at our Seattle group, a guy named Mark rewrote the ending of "To Kill a Mockingbird" and it totally hijacked the first hour. I feel you on this, and @price.jake is right that it usually misses the whole point of digging into the themes together.

Heard some literary critics saying that basically ruins the whole point of discussing theme.
