Am I the only one who mixed up character names in a heated club talk and it went well?

Last month, our reading group picked a thick mystery novel, and the chat about the ending got really tense. I'm normally the quiet one, but I had a strong view on the detective's choice, so I finally spoke up. In my rush, I called the sidekick by the villain's name, and there was this dead silence. Then my friend snickered, and soon everyone was cracking up, which totally broke the stress. The cool part is that after the laugh, we actually dug deeper into why the characters were so easy to confuse. I felt proud for jumping in, even with the slip-up, because it made the whole debate more relaxed and real. Now I see that sometimes a silly goof can bring people together more than perfect points.

Call that a happy accident, since your mix-up probably made more sense than our actual analysis did.

How serious was that analysis anyway.

Patricias32's "happy accident" is spot on. It sounds like your mistake showed everyone was overthinking it. That laugh probably got you closer to the book's real point than any stiff analysis would.
