Finished my 50th book club pick and the number hit me

I just logged 'The Overstory' as my 50th book club read since we started in 2019, and I was shocked I'd stuck with it that long. Looking back, I realized I've argued passionately for maybe three of them and quietly hated at least a dozen, but I keep showing up for the debate itself. Does anyone else find the discussion matters more than loving every single book?

Maybe the real value is in learning how to defend a book you dislike. That skill of arguing a position you don't personally hold sharpens your critical thinking way more than just praising something easy.

How many of those 50 would you have read if the club didn't exist? For me, the push to finish something I'd never pick is half the point.
