I brought up how a character's injury recovery felt rushed in our last read. Half the club agreed, half said it was fine. Where do you stand?

My old knee injury took six months to stop hurting when I stood up. Compared to that, most fictional recoveries feel like magic healing pods. I'm definitely in the 'rushed' camp, but my standards are probably messed up.

Your standards seem fine to me. Most stories speed up healing so they don't get boring. Showing all that recovery time would kill the momentum.

A friend of mine shattered her wrist in a bike crash. Needed surgery, then a cast for months. Couldn't hold a pencil right for like six months. Even now, it aches when the weather changes. Shows how slow real healing is.
