I finally got our group to stop arguing about picking books

We wasted 30 minutes every meeting just voting. I tried letting each person pick one book for the whole year in January, and we put them all on a calendar. Now we just follow the list. Has your club found a better way to plan ahead?

Thirty minutes every meeting just to pick a book? I mean, that's a whole other meeting. My old club would spend maybe five minutes max, we'd just throw out three options and do a quick show of hands. I can't imagine losing half an hour to that every single time.

Yeah, the part about "thirty minutes every meeting" really got me. I read this article once about how some clubs spend more time picking the book than talking about it, which defeats the whole point. It said that if the choice process takes too long, people just get tired and stop caring about the actual discussion. A quick vote on a few options seems way more respectful of everyone's time. Dragging it out feels like poor planning, honestly.
