Our book club fell apart over a single character's death
Last month my book club picked a popular thriller where a major character dies halfway through. Half the group loved the shock value and said it made the book better. The other half was so mad they refused to finish reading. We spent the whole meeting arguing instead of discussing anything else. Two people actually quit the group over it. How do you handle a book that splits the club this badly? Do we just avoid polarizing books from now on or let people fight it out?

Three different coworkers quit over whether to put raisins in potato salad at our last potluck.

Heard a food historian on NPR once say raisins in savory dishes were a whole status symbol thing back in the day, weird how that fight is still going. Can't imagine quitting over it though, that's wild.
