PSA: That $45 book club subscription box I ordered was a total scam

Paid for three months upfront and got one beat-up paperback from 2019 before they ghosted me, has anyone else fallen for one of these monthly book box deals?

Oh COME ON, you can't blame the whole concept of book subscription boxes because you picked a SHADY one. There are legit services out there that send out brand new releases and curated picks for years without issue. Maybe do a little digging next time before you hand over your cash to some random Instagram ad.

Funny timing on this, I actually just read an article about how the better book boxes are basically run like indie bookstores with a monthly twist - they handpick each title and have real relationships with publishers. @karenm49, I think you're right that there are legit ones out there, like the ones that have been around for years and actually let you skip months if the pick doesn't interest you. The problem is too many people see a flashy ad and don't check if the box is just reselling bargain bin leftovers or actually curating new releases.
