Spent $45 on a book club pick that was just awful

Our group chose 'The Crimson Echo' last month based on a bunch of glowing reviews. I bought the hardcover and forced myself through all 400 pages, and it was a total slog with flat characters. Some members loved the prose, but I felt it had no plot. Has anyone else bought a club book they really regretted?

Actually loved that book. The slow pace felt intentional, like it was building atmosphere. Found myself thinking about the characters for days after.

You fell asleep after two pages... that's barely enough time to meet anyone. The whole point is to get lost in the world they build. Missing the whole experience seems like a real shame.
