Stumbled on a stat that book clubs finish only 30 percent of what they pick

Honestly, I was browsing through a library blog last night and found this stat from a survey they did in 2023. It said book clubs only finish about 30 percent of the books they choose to read together. That really surprised me because my group always talks about how we love finishing everything we start. Makes me wonder if we're just lucky or if most clubs bounce around a lot. Has anyone else seen numbers like that for your own group?

Wait, is it really that deep if people just want to hang out?

Wait, are you sure that stat is right though? I mean, 30 percent sounds super low to me too, but maybe your group is just the exception that proves the rule. My own group has been meeting for almost 10 years now, and I'd say we finish maybe 5 out of every 10 books we pick. The rest we either skip entirely or just give up on halfway through because nobody liked them. People have different tastes, and sometimes a book just falls flat for most of the group. It's more about the conversation and the wine than finishing every last page, if you ask me. So honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of clubs are secretly like that, just not admitting it.
