Switched sides on the great pacing debate after our Ocean's 8 discussion

I used to be all about slow-burn novels, thought anything fast-paced was just shallow... but last month my book club read "Project Hail Mary" by Andy Weir and I couldn't put it down. The way he drops you right into the problem on page one and keeps the stakes climbing every chapter just hooked me completely. Has anyone else had a book totally flip their opinion on pacing?
