Wasted $60 on that "club favorite" book everyone hyped up

Picked 'The Midnight Library' after our group voted it best of the year and I swear it was just a 300 page Hallmark movie. Anyone else fall for the hype on a book that totally flopped for them?

Hold up, did you actually finish it or tap out halfway through? I'm asking cause I forced myself to read the whole thing and the ending made me madder than the beginning lol. The whole "you can try infinite lives" thing felt like a cheat code to make the main character seem deep without actually changing anything about her. Felt like the author was just listing off random "what ifs" and calling it philosophy.

I saw someone break down the math on this once, like if she's supposed to be experiencing infinite lives then she'd have to be making split-second decisions based on literally millions of possible outcomes. But the book only shows her trying like three or four different paths before she gives up. That's not infinite lives, that's just being indecisive with extra steps. The author probably read a Wikipedia article on multiverse theory and thought they cracked the code. Reminded me of that time I tried to get into a book club discussion on it and the host got defensive when I pointed out the timeline contradictions. Left me wondering if the author just needed a gimmick to sell copies.
