Why did no one warn me that the book club group chat would be the real debate?
I run a small book club in Austin, about 8 of us. We meet every 3 weeks. Last month we read a pretty simple literary fiction pick, nothing controversial. Or so I thought. The in-person meetup was fine, maybe 40 minutes of decent talk. Then the group chat exploded that night. Two people went at it over whether the main character was 'unreliable' or just 'poorly written'. It got heated enough that someone said they'd 'never read another book with this author again'. I had to mute the chat at 11 PM because my phone was blowing up while I was trying to sleep. The funny part? The next in-person meeting, everyone acted totally chill, like the chat war never happened. Has anyone else dealt with the group chat becoming a whole other battlefield, or is it just my crew?
