Finally fixed that drainage issue in my backyard after 4 months of guessing

I spent forever trying to figure out why water kept pooling near my fence line after rain. Tried digging a French drain twice but it still flooded until I realized the pipe was too narrow for the slope. Swapped it out for a 4-inch pipe last weekend and it worked perfectly after the first storm. Has anyone else dealt with a drainage fix that took way more trial and error than you expected?

Ain't that always the way, the simplest stuff ends up taking the longest to figure out.

Man I feel this so hard. I had a spot in my side yard that turned into a mini lake every time it rained, and I kept adding more gravel and thinking the slope was fine. Turns out I had the pipe buried too shallow and the water was just sitting on top of it before slowly seeping through. Once I dug it down a foot deeper and gave it a steeper drop, it drained like a dream. Sometimes you gotta just stare at the yard during a downpour and watch where the water actually goes instead of guessing.
