Just realized I've been overwatering my lawn for years

I used to water my yard every morning like clockwork, thinking more was better. Then a neighbor told me to stick a screwdriver in the ground and check if it's actually dry before turning the sprinklers on. Turns out my soil holds moisture way longer than I thought. Now I water maybe twice a week and the grass looks just as green. Any of you Bothell folks changed up your watering routine and seen a difference?

Honestly, that screwdriver trick is gold. Now I only water when the soil's actually thirsty.

My snake plant was looking pretty sad until I tried that trick with a wooden skewer. I live in Arizona where it's dry as a bone, so I always thought I wasn't watering enough. Turns out the dirt was staying wet way too long at the bottom and I was drowning the roots. It's amazing how something so simple can save a plant. I check all my pots now before I even look at the watering can.
