That lady at the Thrashers Corner bus stop really scared me straight

Last Tuesday morning I stopped to help a woman with a stroller near the bus stop on 228th, and she told me her neighbor almost got scammed by someone pretending to be from Puget Sound Energy. She said the guy showed up in a fake uniform and demanded $200 cash for an 'emergency meter fix' before she called the cops. Has anyone else had one of these utility scammers come through your street?

Did your friend actually end up getting scammed? Honestly, my friend Jen in the apartments off 164th had a guy try this exact thing. He showed up in a vest that looked legit but had a messed up logo, said her meter was sparking and she needed to pay him cash right then. She told him to wait while she got her purse, then locked the door and called 911 from her window instead. Ngl, he took off running before the cops even showed up, but it was super scary because she has a little kid.

Did you catch what @rosew37 said about the guy running off? That's happening more than people realize - these scammers bank on panic and pressure. Back in my old neighborhood in Shoreline, a guy in a fake Comcast vest tried the same thing on my elderly neighbor, said her cable was gonna start a fire if she didn't pay right then. She slammed the door in his face and watched him peel out in an unmarked white van. It's wild how these grifters are just swapping out the company logos now.
