That tip about splitting a propane line on my smoker was a disaster

I had a guy at the Bothell Ace Hardware tell me I could just split the propane line from my grill to run my smoker too. Sounded easy enough but after one cook the smoker barely got to 200 degrees and the grill flames looked all weak. Went back and he said 'oh yeah you need a bigger tank or separate lines for each.' Cost me $30 for the splitter and a wasted brisket. Anyone else get bad advice from the hardware store guys?

Tbh I read somewhere that propane flow depends on pressure and pipe length. Splitting the line just means both devices get less gas unless your tank is big or you use a regulator that can handle it. Sounds like the ace guy didn't know what he was talking about.

@parkerkim also nobody talks about how propane vaporizes slower in cold weather making the whole thing even worse.
