The Bothell farmers market cash I miscounted for 6 months

I've been grabbing produce from the Saturday market on Main Street since May. This weekend I got home and counted my cash, realized I was 12 dollars short. Turned out I'd been subtracting the 5 dollar entry fee from my budget twice the whole time, because I wrote it down once and also kept it in my head. My buddy at the honey stall heard me mention it and laughed, said he'd done the same thing for a year. Anyone else make a dumb arithmetic mistake like this and only catch it way later?

... and here I was thinking I was the only one who could lose money to my own brain like that. I did something similar with my gym membership, kept budgeting for it twice every month for like eight months before I looked at my spreadsheet and went "wait, why does this say 90 bucks when the actual charge is 45." The worst part is when you finally catch it, you have that moment of pure genius followed by the crushing realization you're not as smart as you thought you were. At least your buddy at the honey stall gets it, misery loves company I guess. But hey, on the bright side, you only lost 12 dollars over six months, that's practically a rounding error compared to some of the stuff I've done.
