Tried both pagers and phone dispatch for local handyman calls, phone wins every time

I ran a small handyman gig out of Bothell for about 6 months using a pager like some folks swear by. Thought it'd be cheaper and more reliable. But I kept missing calls or getting delayed responses from customers. Switched to a cheap smartphone with a dispatch app last month, and my response time dropped from 45 minutes to under 10. Plus I can send pics of the job site right away. Anyone else ditch old tech for something simpler around here?

Oh man, right on! I tried the whole pager thing too and it was such a headache. Missed half my calls and had to chase people down to even figure out what they needed. Soon as I switched to a basic phone setup with a simple messaging app, everything got way smoother. Being able to snap a photo of the problem and send it back to the customer is a game changer. Honestly feels like people who cling to pagers are just making life harder for themselves.

The photo thing is clutch for sure. One thing that helps too is setting up a quick auto-reply on your phone so customers know you got their message and will get back to them. Saves you from having to explain why you didn't answer right away.
