Tried both the Main Street Thai places side by side last week - one was clearly just using pre-made sauces

A buddy and I grabbed takeout from Thai Orchid and then Siam Thai on the same evening to settle a debate. Thai Orchid's pad see ew was way darker and sweeter, tasted like bottled stuff. Siam Thai's was lighter, you could actually taste the wok flavor and the veggies had some crunch left. We both agreed Siam was better. Has anyone else noticed this or am I being too picky about takeout?

Tasted like bottled stuff" lmao yeah I've had that exact same dark sweet pad see ew before and it felt like I was eating soy sauce flavored candy. Siam Thai's lighter version sounds way more legit, the real wok hei flavor is hard to fake. Honestly if I'm paying takeout prices it better not taste like someone just opened a jar of Panda Express sauce on my noodles.
