A hostel cook in Lisbon showed me how to eat for 4 euros a day and it wasn't rice and beans
Stayed at a place in Alfama two summers back and this guy named Tomás ran the kitchen every night. I watched him hit the same market stall at 7pm when they slashed prices on fish, then he walked two blocks over for veggies that were about to get tossed. He told me "the food isn't bad, the timing is bad" and he fed six of us for under 20 euros total. I've been timing my grocery runs on trips ever since and it cut my food costs in half. Anyone else plan their day around when markets mark stuff down?
